DP Larry Blanford to be Phantoscope 2019 Guest Speaker!

We’re pleased to announce Richmond High School alumnus and noted Director of Photography Larry Blanford will be our guest speaker at thie year’s Phantoscope high School Film Festival! Larry will be at a Q&A at 7:00 pm before the film screening.

Larry Blanford is a Director of Photography within the film industry and has been working professionally since 1987.

After graduating in 1977 from Richmond High School in Richmond, Indiana, Larry joined the United States Air Force. Subsequent to his 7 years as an Air Force cameraman and having accrued over 400 hours in all types of Air Force’s Aircraft to include the F4, F5, F15 and F16, Larry was offered a position on the movie Top Gun as the camera operator flying in the backseat of the Navy’s F14s. With the success of Top Gun and after serving 9 years on Active Duty, Larry departed the Air Force in 1986 and started his career in professional filmmaking.

Presently, Larry has shot film in over 40 countries between his time in the military and professional work. His most recent Director of Photography credits include MY SPY (2019) SHAFT (2019) TAG (2018), and HANGMAN starring Al Pacino (2017).


SHAFT starring Samual L. Jackson & Richard Roundtree will be in Theater June 14.

Larry resides in Charlottesville, Virginia with his wife Tamar and 3 step-daughters Hannah, Madi
and Emma.
